We just experienced a presidential election marred by “fake news,” one that will usher in an administration helmed by a man who pays no heed to facts and any coherent narrative structure. He may not be an ideologue, as President Barack Obama has quietly assured the country, but he is certainly surrounded by them.
There will be plenty of nationalist noise to sift through in the coming years.
Investigative journalism — the stuff that got Hastings killed, one might argue — is paramount.
